Case Study Report–The dark Knight

Order Description

Commercial Success: The dark Knight
My Part: Focus on Lighting Design Section

A genre-based case study should compare the case study production to other related productions

Your group will refer to eight (8) additional screen productions that provide insight into the visual genre elements of the case study screen production.

Two different additional screen productions per group member

Since there are four group members, then with 4 members looking at 2 different screen productions, this means the group looks at 8 related screen productions (4 group members x 2 productions = 8 productions).
To help each group member pick two related additional screen productions, consider:
What past genre productions influenced or inspired the visual genre qualities and elements of the case study screen production?
These eight different productions can come from any historical period; any geographical or any national location; they can be live-action or animation or both.

The eight different productions belong to the same platform / medium as the case study production.

This means, if the case study production is a movie, the eight different productions are also movies. If the case study production is a TV show, then the eight other productions are also TV shows.

If the case study screen production refers to / is inspired by an earlier screen production

You can (should) refer to the earlier work. (See Genre Style Guide below.)

If the case study production is part of a franchise

If the case study production is part of a franchise, then only two other different productions from this franchise can be covered by the group.

Example: Say the case study production was a movie The Horror from Cemetery Hill 6 (dir. Sirob Ffolrak, 2016).
Then only two other productions from the franchise (eg The Horror from Cemetery Hill 2 and The Horror from Cemetery Hill 5) can be included as part of the eight additional screen productions. It will be up to the group to decide what two group members deal with these two other productions from the franchise.

Example: Say the case study production was a TV series-serial, Season Two of Genghis the Menace (2015).
Then only two other related productions from the franchise (eg Season Three of The Young Mongolians , 2010 and Season One of Mongolian Chronicles , 2002) can be included as part of the eight additional screen productions. It will be up to the group to decide what two group members deal with these two other productions from the franchise.

A case study has a focus on one or two topics or issues:
The genre-based case study will focus on genre-related visual elements of worldbuilding and characterization

What genre-related aspects of worldbuilding and characterization might have contributed to either the commercial success or the critical success of the case study screen production?

When considering worldbuilding or characterization, what genre codes and conventions, as well as what genre inventions and innovations, might have contributed to EITHER the commercial success OR the critical success of the case study screen production?

Worldbuilding = genre-related design of the world(s) the characters inhabit for this case study there is an emphasis on visual design elements

Characterization = genre-related design of characters (character design, the creation and construction of a character) for this case study there is an emphasis on visual design elements
