One of the themes present in our discussion of the American Dream was freedom. Let us consider this notion from another context. Why is Dorothea Lange an important part of the visual representation of the early 20thcentury (specifically the Depression and WWII Internment)? What were some of the reasons that lead to the mass internment of Japanese Americans during WWII? Why were Langes photographs censored? As you look through them, what kind of visual imagery is she presenting? Are any stereotypes being addressed? How does this connect back to our previous topic and discussions on FDR and Rockwell? How does this period of time and actions of our government connect to our world today?
