What do these documents suggest was successful about the New Deal and what was not successful?
AMH 2020 Writing Assignment #2 25% of final grade Due October 27
You have read John Steinbeck In Dubious Battle, a fictional account of a strike of agricultural workers during the Great Depression. In class we saw the documentary film The River (If you missed it or want to review it this film is available on You Tube.) The following link will take you to all of Franklin Roosevelts fireside chats. http://www.mhric.org/fdr/fdr.html
Choose any 3 of the chats from those numbered 1-12. In this paper you will consider the following:
John Steinbeck, In Dubious Battle
Pare Lorenz documentary film, The River
3 of Roosevelts fireside chats as indicated above
These three different and different kinds of documents all contribute to an understanding of the Great Depression and the New Deal. Think about the political theory behind each document? How do the documents express point of view? Which Americans were most likely to find one or another of these documents compelling and persuasive? Then answer the following question: What do these documents suggest was successful about the New Deal and what was not successful? Your thesis is the answer to the question. The documents provide evidence to support for your thesis. You may if you wish seek additional evidence, but it is not required. If you do seek evidence make sure that it comes from reliable sources as we have discussed in class and document your sources. Remember I am primarily interested in your thinking and your ability to put together these disparate documents. Avoid lengthy quotes. Any quotes should be less than a sentence long and should only be from the primary documents. 5 pages.
In grading I will consider:
Is there a thesis?
Does the thesis answer the question?
Why do different documents point in different directions?
Or, do the documents point in the same direction?
Are the documents used effectively to support your thesis?
Does it appear that the paper was proofread (no typos, missing words, etc.)?
Is spelling correct?
Is grammar proper usage?
Is there evidence of plagiarism?
If there are quotes, are they kept to the less than a sentence maximum specified
