Was the Cold War primarily an ideological or a geopolitical context?
. Bet Historians are largely divided into three camps when assessing the causes and the responsibility for the Cold War. “Orthodox” historians place the primary blame for the Cold War on the Soviet Union and Communism. “Revisionist” Historians primarily place the blame on the United States in an unrelenting quest for hegemony and markets. “Realist” historians reject issues of blame. Instead, they see the Cold War arising from “great powers acting like great powers.” In short, they argue that United States and the Soviet Union acted on perceived national interests. Which of these three do you think is the most accurate and why? Was the Cold War primarily an ideological or a geopolitical context? Be sure to consider the motivations and actions of both superpowers during the Early Cold War period (1945-1950).
