Using Google NGrams do a search for four key terms from our class. Using the results of that search make an argument about how changing perspectives on literature may have affected how we read and study the written word.
Some suggestions for words include: Epic, Orality, Poetry, Myth, Colonialism, Ancient, Modern, Novel, Nonfiction, Realism, Fantasy, Satire, Truth, or the names of the texts we have read.
Remember, Google NGrams gives you a snapshot at a distance regarding trends in the usage of words. It might suggest to you some general ideas, but it cant be your only source of evidence. You will need to use the Search in Google Books function at the bottom of the page to get a better sense of how these words were being used in different eras and find evidence for your claims.
This is a research paper, and there is an expectation you will base your argument on research. As such you will need to cite your sources and include a link to your NGram. You are practicing interpreting trends at a distance, so make sure you have a clear argument that makes sense of your research and frames it. Dont just summarize what you find, make sense of it!
Please use MLA formatting for any citations and include a works cited page with an entry for any texts or media you discuss and include the Ngram website link.
Safe Assign will be used with all submitted papers in this class. Within Blackboard, Safe Assign automatically checks students papers for plagiarism as students submit
them online or when instructors submit selected papers to the database.
