  4. Determine the factored LRFD uniform (factored) load (wu) by applying the following LRFD controlling load combination to wD and wL: [1.2 D + 1.6 L]
  5. Determine the Reactions (Ru), Maximum Shear (Vu – required shear strength), and Maximum Moment ( Mu – required flexural strength)

  2. Select the beam from AISC Table 3-2 (W Shapes – Selection by Zx) and complete the typical chart.
