writing your assignment which organisation you intend to use as your case study and get the tutors

Discuss the performance measurement methods that would be suitable for the organisation
or that are actually being used by the organisation. Evaluate their adequacy and justify their
use so that you can make recommendations for a viable, justified and balanced toolkit (i.e. a
variety of performance measurement methods) that would help the organisation improve its
overall business performance.
Then, formulate a plan indicating how you would implement, or enhance the implementation
of, the methods in your chosen organisation.
Your evaluation and plan should be based on your reading from the academic literature
(and, where appropriate, professional sources) combined with evidence drawn from the
organisational setting and your own experiences

Instructions:
our introduction must include 4 things:
1) Introduce key terms, for this assignment it could be a definition for Performance Measure any why it is important for an organisation to measure how they are performing, supported by an academic citation (journal article or conference paper).
2) Very briefly introduce your organisation, support with an organisation citation
3) Provide some context relevant to the assignment. For this assignment, you could identify any performance evaluation tools which you have studied in the business operations unit, which are currently being used by the organisation.
4) State the intent of the assignment; a more concise version of the assignment brief. e.g. this assignment will recommend tools to help the organisation improve its overall performance and provide a plan to enhance existing tools and implement new tools.
After your introduction, tell me why its important to ensure that the right things are measured, and support your argument with an academic literature source (journal article or conference paper). For the criteria (what to measure) you can either state what is being measured currently by your chosen organisation, or you can state that based on your knowledge of the organisation, this is what should be measured. Refer to your criteria in Appendix A. If the criteria is based on what is being measured currently by your chosen organisation you must provide an organisation citation to support your list of criteria. This could be a web page (see https://referencing.port.ac.uk/pages/ref86.html for guidance), internal document, intranet page (see https://referencing.port.ac.uk/index.php?d1=45&d2;=&d3;=&d4;=&system=6&media=1 for guidance) etc. If you have determined the criteria yourself, make this very clear so I don\’t expect a citation.
Next tell me that pairwise ranking was used to determine which are the most appropriate tools to measure the criteria in Appendix A. Note the in-text citation and the reference are on the template in APA 6th edition format. The populated pairwise ranking template is in Appendix B. Then interpret the populated template and tell me which tools were ranked the highest which you are recommending for the organisation. Remember to check that the tools ranked highest cover all of the criteria that need to be measured, if there is a gap where none of the highest ranking tools can measure a particular criteria, then choose another tool with the highest score for that criteria. I explained this in the WebEx with an example.
Introduce each tool one at a time, tell me whether it is currently used in the organisation. Critique the current use of the tool against its ability to help the organisation improve its overall business performance or if not currently used, critique how the organisation can benefit from using the tool. Use academic literature to support the benefits and provide specific examples to apply the academic literature to your chosen organisation. I\’ve attached an example of a critique for 1 tool, in my example it is auditing, but you can apply a similar structure for the tools you have chosen. Ignore the questions at the end of the page as these were given to the full time group, you don\’t need to do them! I did this very quick, you can do much better, more critique and more use of academic literature.

In the second WebEx, available at https://moodle.port.ac.uk/mod/webexactivity/view.php?id=721210 I showed how you can use pairwise ranking to determine the appropriate tool set.
Your question was whether you should consider lean or six sigma. The slide pack you referred to included a definition of lean, six sigma and lean six sigma, showing that they can complement each other if used together. For the purposes of this assignment you need to consider tools to measure performance, under six sigma this could be control chart, under lean this could be a value stream map. My example has six sigma, I\’m happy for you to be more specific in your assignment and list control chart as one tool and the value stream map as another tool.
Your question was also about tool assessment. The example I provided was based on my studies of MSc SQM, when there were 8 units at the time instead of the current 4. I would recommended that you exclude assessment from your list of tools as it wasn\’t studied for business operations unit. As the assignment brief states it is important that you stay focused and avoid going off-topic as this assignment is your opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned in the business operations unit.
What I have described above is the first part of the assignment. The second paragraph of the assignment brief states that you need to formulate a plan. For those tools which you are recommending which are currently being used by the organisation you need to provide a plan to enhance their use to improve the overall business performance. For those tools which you are recommending which aren\’t currently being used by the organisation you need to provide a plan to implement them in your chosen organisation to improve the overall business performance.
For your plan I recommend that you base it on a change management framework. Find a change management book or journal article which states steps to implement change. For example if step 1 was to create a need for the change, you would describe this step in your own words, citing the original source, then you would find another source which states how you can create a need for change, you would convey this in your own words, citing the original source. It would be good if there are opposing views or multiple sources to support the same view. You then need to be critical about the organisation for step 1, whether they currently have a need for change etc. then you need to provide an example of how you would apply to literature to create a need for change in your chosen organisation.
The MSc SQM marking criteria include the criterion \’key issues\’, see the example I have attached. For this assignment it would be appropriate to identify key issues to ensure that your implementation/enhancement plan is a success. If you identify a number of key issues (about 4 or 5) supported by academic literature you would get a pass for this criterion, if you differentiate the key issues in terms of importance you can get Merit/Distinction for this criterion
