Physiological Psychology: Doublecortin-Positive Cells and Brain Repair

Goal:
To read, understand, and critique a published scientific journal article in the field of Physiological Psychology.

Topic:
Physiological Psychology: Doublecortin-Positive Cells and Brain Repair.

Sources:
– At least one approved original, peer-reviewed, scientific journal article, (I WILL UPLOAD THE APPROVED ARTICLE TITLED: Doublecortin-Positive Cells in the Adult Primate
Cerebral Cortex and Possible Role in Brain
Plasticity and Development).
– At least one news source (e.g. Google News).
– (optional) Any other sources of information (NOT Wikipedia), such as magazine articles.

Write-up
Your paper should be written in this order:

Background
– What is your topic? Why did you choose it?
– What is known already about your topic (what did previous studies show)?
– What is not known about your topic (what are the authors trying to show)?

Research
– Summarize the original study (introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusion).
– Summarize the news story. Why was it written? How does it relate to the research article you found?

Critical Thinking
– Critique the original study. What are some pros (what did the authors do exceptionally well methodically that made it a good study) and some cons (what did the authors not do well methodically that could have hindered the results)?

Additional Experiments
– Describe a novel method you would add to their study – what would you do (that the authors did not do AT ALL) to add additional information to the current study? It CANNOT be a minor revision of their method, it must be something they did not do at all. For instance, adding another group of subjects is not novel if you use the same methods.
– Describe the novel method fully and explain how it would affect the conclusion of the current study.

Additionally, I will upload the scientific journal article that has been approved by my professor (Doublecortin-Positive Cells in the Adult Primate
Cerebral Cortex and Possible Role in Brain
Plasticity and Development), as well as the assignment outline and rubric to help with the paper.
