How would Clytemnestra have been seen by the 5th century audience?

CHOOSE A PASSAGE FROM ORESTEIA-AESCHYLUS TO SHOW HOW PEOPLE IN THE 5TH CENTURY VIEW CLYTEMNESTRA ( Hint: the Chorus in Agamemnon’s play ). The essay should NOT be a narrative, the heart of the essay should focus on summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting key points that other scholars have made about your topic. There are four required categories that cumulatively add up to the whole report: 1. Introduction: definition of the research topic you are proposing ( • Introduction: As much as possible, this first section should set up the text that your research essay will explore. You might think of it as a better, more well-defined version of the prospectus assignment. There you defined the problem that you are exploring, talked about its importance for the work as a whole, attempted to talk about why your readers should care about your topic, and introduced your working thesis.) 2. Literary Critical Discussion of your topic and its relation to the text. ( • Literary Critical Discussion: This section reviews work of the literary critics that you have consulted (= secondary sources). Here you will be summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting from the scholars who have written on your topic. (Ferrarii’s artcile is a literary critical discussion of the scholars he had read on the role of Cassandra in the Agamemnon although his discussion was not very organized.) In it, be sure to define key terms that are necessary for understanding your discussion (for example, “retribution,” “justice,” sacrifice”). If done well, this section will help to clarify your own perspective by setting it up in relation to what others have said. In other words, this section will help you find your voice in discussion of the topic. ) 3. Historical and Cultural Background for your topic ( : In this section, you will be presenting background that is relevant to your project. It is similar to the research you undertook for Short Essay 2, where you consulted two sources, whether cultural or historical, for background that elucidated your text. If your sources were reliable for Short Essay 2, you may use them in this section as long as the information is relevant to your project. If your sources were unreliable (the .com variety), you need new sources. If you missed the lecture by UT’s librarian, see the reference librarians for help.) 4.
