Explain the situation: the context, why you were a minority, when this happened, etc.
Think about all the groups you have been a part of (e.g. school groups, church groups, social work groups, organizational groups, etc.).
At some time we all were a part of a minority in terms of gender, race or any other dimension (check Loden’s diversity dimensions in R 5)*, therefore:
a) Explain the situation: the context, why you were a minority, when this happened, etc.
b) Did you feel differently because you were a minority member? For example, did you feel less confident or less comfortable speaking up at meetings? Provide some details (e.g., explain the situation when you felt less confident).
c) Did others (the majority group members) treat you differently? How?
d) Which stage of Bennett’s learning stages (in R5)* do you think most of them were? Why do you feel so?
e) How did your minority status affect your performance? Did you perform better or worse? Why?
* Loden’s classification of diversity dimensions and Bennett’s Learning stages are both in
“Diversity Training” R5.
If you have never been a minority member, talk to someone who is a member of a minority group and ask him/her to answer the above questions but do not include their name in your submission.
