Justification of study / rationale
Brief organization / industry background
Formulate Masters level research objectives and questions
At least 5 different academic references.
Chapter 2 – Literature review
This should show both breadth and depth of reading and understanding
Major theories, debates and concepts
Avoid being too descriptive
Who said what? Who agreed / disagreed?
In your own words, but still attribute source
Show link to research objectives and questions. A summary table (conceptual framework) is a good way to do this (example attached).
Chapter 3 – Methodology
Use Saunders et als research onion as a framework or suitable alternative
Detail, such as advantages / disadvantages can always go in tables or appendices
Chapters 4 and 5
Findings (presentation of results), discussion, conclusion, and recommendations these can be kept separate or integrated, as you prefer
Findings state the facts and, for primary data, may include pie charts, frequency tables, bar charts, statistical data etc, either in the chapter or in the appendices. For a dissertation based on secondary data only, you still need to present findings.
Your discussion should link back to research objectives / questions and to the literature have the research objectives been achieved or not, the research questions answered or not? Have you found the same as the literature or something different? It doesnt matter if you have or have not, as long as you make the connection.
The conclusion will include any recommendations to the organisation / industry, limitations of your research, and suggestions for future research.
