Electrostatic forces

In this unit and the previous unit we have been considering how the arrangement and bonding of atoms in materials and molecules determines their properties. Electrostatic forces control the bonding between atoms in materials and molecules as well as the interactions between molecules. The types of bonding and the nature of the electrostatic interactions between individual molecules determine the properties of a substance on the macroscopic scale. This assignment is designed to help you consolidate your understanding of the relationship between the structure of materials and molecules and their properties while continuing to build your writing skills in a scientific context.
Assignment: Using relevant information from your class notes and textbook, write an essay that is at least 300 words long describing in your own words how the arrangement of atoms and their bonding in materials and molecules determines the properties of substances. Select at least one material or molecule to use as an example in your essay. If you can provide more than one example, thats even better! You may use a material(s) or molecule(s) discussed in class. You should discuss the electrostatic forces involved. Try to organize your thoughts in a meaningful way, rather than simply providing a list of disconnected ideas. Your essay should be double-spaced and submitted as a Microsoft Word-compatible file (.doc or .docx, no PDFs). You do not need to provide citation
