describe What are the unstated assumptions behind the argument?
Order Description
You need to do this assignment based on my Research Argument essay. Length: 1100 words.
Objective:
Revise your researched argument using the review and peer review assignments you completed earlier in the unit.
Two of the major skills you should be learning in this course is the ability to self-assess your writing and revise your own writing. As part of the revision process, you will complete an analysis and revision plan of your draft of your researched argument. To do this you will review your draft and develop an analysis and evaluation of your text along with a plan for revising it.
Instructions:
This assignment will include three parts.
PART ONE: In part one, you should analyze your text for the structural elements of the argument. You should identify your claim, the approach you took to the argument, the types of appeals, and any other elements of argument which are appropriate. You may also want to address any of the following questions:
-What is the issue presented in the argument?
-Is this issue important? Why?
-What is the background of the issue?
-What claim does the author make in regard to this issue?
-Who is the intended audience for the argument?
-What are the unstated assumptions behind the argument?
-What are the main points the argument makes?
-Does the argument follow a formal argument structure?
-What is the primary reasoning strategy?
Please Note: you should approach your text with what you actually say, not what you intended to say.
PART TWO: in part two, you should evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your argument. You should clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses you find in the text. You can use any of the following questions to help you, in addition to your general thoughts on what you did well with the argument and what you might like to improve:
-Is the argument logical and effectively supported?
-Does the argument address all the pertinent points?
-Is there a clear claim?
-Does there need to be a clearer claim?
-Is the evidence relevant? Effectively presented?
-Is the argument persuasive?
-Do you think it reaches its intended audience?
PART THREE: In the final part of this assignment you will identify at least 3 specific revisions you will make to your argument and the reason for each revision. You certainly may identify more revisions if they are appropriate. Your revisions must be more than just editing comments. You may want to consider whether adding a visual argument or other types of appeals might make your argument stronger.
