PRIMARY / SECONDARY DOCUMENT ESSAY

Each student will be required to complete a primary / secondary document analysis on an issue from 1877–Present. Students will be required to examine and review a Voices of Freedom primary document from you Give Me Liberty textbook. A primary document is a source that was created during the time of study. A secondary source interprets this source. After reviewing the primary source, students will describe the document. I will want to know who wrote the document. When was it written? Describe in your own words what is being written. Students will then take this document and place it in the context of events. What is going on in America at this time? This information will also be obtained from your textbook as the secondary information.

The primary/secondary should be a typed 250 300 words, double spaced formal historical review writing essay in APA (American Psychological Association) or MLA (Modern Language Association) format. Your essay must be written in Times New Roman 12 Point Font. A cover page with your name, the name of the school, the title of the paper and the date must precede your essay. I MUST have a copy of the primary source document attached to your essay. Omission of your primary source will result in a failing grade. Your essay should include a reference page with both your primary and secondary sources.
