Deaf Interactions
You will use the other form to submit your others. You MUST rename the document, and include your name, such as Kellyinteractions.com. Your responses will be submitted in the worksheet, and you can write as much as you want in the worksheet. Document your hours as they occur.
Interactions:
During the course of the semester/term, students are expected to participate in at least 12 hours of language, and cultural observations and experiences to augment their coursework. These hours are actual observation and participation times and do not include travel times.
o A portion of the 12 hours must be conducted in either the online or on-campus Language Lab working with the Language Mentor. Every time you meet with the Language Mentor (LM), you may count it as one/half hour, even if you meet less time than that. You may not count more than 3 hours in this section. You will include your meetings with the LM under this and you must document what you learned. ASL 1141 requires 6 times meeting.
o At least one hour must be an interaction with a Deaf individual but to get your twelve hours, you may do more. The interactions can be one on one with Deaf people but can also be a structured, such as a planned event at the school or out in your community. This can include the Silent Lunches at Troy and silent dinners. All students will have at least 1 interaction involving sign language during ASL 1, but will be responsible for 12 hours of other events or activities, which involve sign language.
Examples of Interactions:
Troy Silent Lunch Deaf Sporting events
Out to eat Silent Dinners
Study sessions Local Coffee Nights
Church Talking/Chatting/Hanging out
At work/school Workshops
Silent Weekends
o You may watch ASL Vlogs. These are signed Blogs. You may watch up to 4 Vlogs and each Vlog is worth 0.5 hours. Your learning will be about the topic itself, or what you noticed about the way people sign and facial expressions. You do not have to necessarily understand what is being signed. You will need to submit the URL to get credit. URLs are available for you to watch in the folder under Deaf Interactions. (ONLY ASL 1 ALLOWS THIS)
o Observation of Deaf people telling stories, or interactions on line. You may visit
Oicmovies.com
D-pan (https://www.d-pan.org/index.php/d-pan-feature-galleries/video-galleries)
(Make sure you are not watching hearing people signing.)
o Watching interpreters MAY NOT be counted or considered as interaction hours.
o Movies watched: Every movie watched is worth 1 hour. You must answer the questions on your observation form. Movies that will be accepted to watch for interaction credit:

I have attached the observation form. You can see where I added the gender, age and the hours. You can make up the signs and what we talked about. Make sure you do not leave out any details. You also have to watch a couple of videos to complete this assignment.
