Prompt: Research a controversial topic of your choice, develop your argument, and present it in a 2500 word essay that adheres to MLA 8 formatting and the formal conventions of academic discourse. Remember that your topic must have a side to take; therefore, it needs to be arguable.

Purpose: Fulfill the required final essay for English 1B by exhibiting your ability to conduct extensive research for the purpose of composing a lengthy argumentative essay. Adequately argue a side of a controversial topic. Develop a line of reasoning that encapsulates ethos, pathos, and logos and that is void of logical fallacies. Develop an argument that accounts for opposing arguments and qualifiers.

Required Sources: Students will need 10 outside, credible sources that help develop your argument. 7 of these sources MUST be from Academic Journals. Students should not share sources as this could easily be considered cheating since there is no way to prove that each student conducted their own research. Dont forget about visualsgraphs, images, etc.

Annotated Bibliography: Students will develop a proper MLA formatted annotated bibliography. Each source will count as one point based on proper citation and annotation. These sources should be chosen carefully as they will be the 10 required in students essays. Each source and annotation will be graded individually, including the source, citation, summary, and explanation.
Directions: First, write out the proper MLA citation just like in a works cited page. Next, summarize the source. Finally, explain in detail how the source will be used to further your argument, i.e.: Address a naysayer, develop background, support X point, etc.
Each annotation should be a substantial paragraph using all of the conventions of scholarly writing and grammar.
