Your paper will include description, analysis and interpretations of the TWO works of art, and cover much of the same criteria as your Midterm Paper:
1) DESCRIPTION / INTRODUCTION
Artists– if available
Titles– make sure to put in \”quotation marks\” or italicize
Dates– year or time period
Media– i.e. oil on canvas, photograph, graphite on paper, etc.
Dimensions– size, in inches, centimeters, etc. i.e. 7 x 12

Comparing and contrasting the two works on the following points:

4) CONCLUSION
TEMPLATE FOR OUTLINE
This \”template\” lays out the main points that you want to cover in your paper, using the main parts as listed below. For highlighted areas, refer to your \”Choice of 2 Works\” post. Remember, the paper must be in PAPER form, however– not an outline!

Description– a brief 1-4 sentence description of the work. For your description, imagine you are describing what the work of art looks like to a friend or a blind person.
2) FORMAL ANALYSIS
Comparing and contrasting the two works on the following points:
Function or purpose of art– Refer to your \”Choice of 2 Works\” post. For what purpose was each work originally made? Why do you think so? Ch. 1, p. 4
Formal Elements– such as line, color and shape. Ch. 2, p. 24-42 For each one of these, support your ideas with specific references to the work of art.
For each formal element you discuss, explain to what end it is used. In other words, what is the effect of this formal element in the work of art? Or, why did the artist choose to use it this way? In other words, answer the \”who cares?\” question! Sometimes, the answer will lead to a Principle of Composition. For example,
\”In this painting, the artist uses a lot of horizontal lines. This gives the composition a sense of stability.\” OR….
\”In this sculpture, the neutral color of the bronze material is consistent throughout, serving to unify the form.\”
Principles of Composition– such as proportion, scale, unity and variety. Ch. 2, p. 42-45 For each one of these, support your ideas with specific references to the work of art.
For each principle of composition you discuss, explain to what end it is used. In other words, what is the effect of this principle of composition in the work of art? Or, why did the artist choose to use it this way? In other words, answer the \”who cares?\” question! Sometimes, the answer will lead to another Principle of Composition. For example,
\”There is a lot of repetition of rectangular shapes throughout this photograph, which serves to give unity to the composition.\” OR….
\”In this painting, the small proportion of the figure to the surrounding architectural space creates a sense of overwhelming loneliness\”.
3) CONTENT ANALYSIS / CONTEXT / INTERPRETATION
Content Analysis
Comparing and contrasting the two works on the following points:
* Subject Matter Ch. 4, p. 88-89 — Including subtext. What is the substance of these works of art? What are they \”about\”? Remember, even abstract or nonobjective works of art have subject matter.
* Iconography, if applicable Ch. 4, p. 90Describe, citing specific examples from the works of art. Identify the culture or place or religion the iconography hails from (i.e. Christian iconography). Remember, not all works of art contain iconography! Perhaps one of the works of art contains iconography and the other does not. For this part of your paper, you may have to consult outside sources (see \”Using Outside Sources\” Module Section).
Context Analysis
For this part of your paper, you may have to consult outside sources (see \”Using Outside Sources\” Module Section).
Comparing and contrasting the two works on the following points:
* Historical Context Ch. 4, p. 92-93 — How does when (and where) the works were made inform their content?
* Physical Surroundings Ch. 4, p. 94– Does where the works are located and viewed affect our understanding of them? In other words, was it a factor in the artist\’s or artists\’ process and decision-making? Are they a site-specific works or works of architecture? The issue of physical surroundings may or may not apply to the work(s) of art your are discussing.
Personal Interpretation
Comparing and contrasting your interpretation of the two works as follows:
Ch. 4, p. 102 — Discuss your opinion of the meanings of the works of art. What caught your eye about these work of art? How do you feel about the works of art? How do the overall compositions relate meaning to you? This is your chance to interpret the works in your opinion. However, remember to back up your opinions with specific references to the works of art!
4) CONCLUSION
In a short paragraph, write a brief summary of what you have covered in your paper.

Description– Basically showing that Christ brought the draft of fish. So many fish to handle all inside the boat. The other boat catching it with their hands, as well as the animals are seeing what they can get!
Function or purpose of art– Christ just saying his hand again and that he was different and sent here to do a job!

Dimensions– 123 cm x 141 cm
?Description — Shows a social gathering at type of club. There is a performance a happening see the stage in the far back. But as well as tables for dinner going on also!
Function or purpose of art– I believe this painting was created to capture a certain time! Showing a gathering and how they enjoyed them selves then!
