Are there any similarities between the collation and analysing of qualitative and quantitative data?

Quantitative data includes the use of factual data which provides hard evidence; the statistical information which is provided via the collation of quantitative data is used to support the hypothesis of professionals as well as used to evidence research. The information which is provided is supported by the evidential data which is collected by mathematical and scientifically proven findings. Quantitative data is used as it provides information which can be inspected, transformed and modelled. Quantitative data can be in the form of bar graphs, pie charts and scatter grams; this data is likely to be measureable and used in comparison with other informative findings (university of Northampton, n,d).

Qualitative data focuses on the opinionated responses of others; when collating qualitative data, there would be a focused group of individuals who are targeted to get the responses from. Qualitative data provides an in-depth response to the question asked as it is coming directly from the individual so they can include their feelings and expressive thoughts. Although qualitative data can not be validated it can give a personal insight of what is being researched (University of Northampton, n.d). When analysing qualitative data it requires the researcher to identify the similarities and differences in the responses which they receive from their target audience; in addition, the method of analysis for qualitative data may be required to be changed regularly to meet the needs of the target audience (Surrey Library, n.d).
