Ancient Roman History: Josephus (Jewish Ant. 20.154-5) suggests that there were as many positive as negative accounts of Nero. Would it be possible today to write a positive history of Neros reign?

The Topic is the essay question that needs to be addressed. Due to this being an ancient history research essay, extensive research is needed. The essay should primarily focus on ancient evidence, while also incorporating modern scholarship. The essay requirements are strict, and therefore no newspaper article, magazine article, or blogs can be used. Only ancient first-hand accounts, biographies, or books and journals are to be used. This particular course uses a specific referencing system ( Classics and Ancient History Undergraduate Referencing Style), therefore this needs to be used. It is a style that concerns footnotes and bibliography. I will be providing the referencing guide which explains what this referencing system entails and how to use it. I will also be providing a document which provides general insight into the topic and a list of sources that can be used for the essay. However, independent research also needs to be visible.

– Depth and breadth of understanding of central issues.
– Ability to form a well-structured essay.
– Engagement with academic sources and evidence.
– Insight and/or creativity in interpreting texts or constructing a point of view or argument.
– Capacity to produce a coherent and well-written essay using correct grammar and syntax; appropriately referenced.
