Organization of ad analysis essay
Introduction: begin with a hook that brings in the reader. Do not begin with thesis. After hook, identify product and publication (Dinty Moore Big Bowl Stews, People Magazine, 2006 OR Got Milk?, Womens Day, 1999). Then write a brief summary of the ad, the visualwhat a reader who hasnt seen the ad needs to know to get it; include here ONLY the key operative copy/text. No real details here. Details will appear later in paper when writing analysis. Then write thesis = the key to thesis is to state what values or ideals the ad is selling = masculinity, manliness, the perfect family, the socially healthy family, everyone plays their roles, etc.
Suggested organization for Dinty Moore:

Two subject ad; using 12 elements of image analysis, group appropriate elements together and look at both subjects side by side (as opposed to subject by subject); the groupings (placement, body language, clothing/color) would be body paragraphs. In these paragraphs, you would bring in, integrate sources when and where appropriate in a way that adds MEANING.
Suggest organization for body paragraphs of Got Milk?
Using elements of image analysis, develop 2 or 3 paragraphs that analyze the mother subject (pose, gaze, mouth = body language, clothing, etc).
Then do subject by subject for boy and girl. Use sources when and where appropriate throughout.
For both ads, make sure you analyze secondary text!!!! Remember, in advertising, image and text/copy work together; therefore, integrate into your image analysis mention of textput this together. Dont write a separate paragraph at the end or beginning that deals with text/copy alone.
Keep in mind at the paragraph level the balance between specific objective summary (what you are writing about) and subjective analysis (what that means in relation to your thesis)
