●Identify and analyze a problem related to our health care system, based on the recent (2016-2020), peer-reviewed literature, e.g.: ●Problems related to cost●Financial or non-financial barriers to access ●Disparities in care●Overutilization●Workforce issues●Medication errors●Nosocomial infections●An analysis of the impact of some aspect of reform●Issue with physician distribution, or medical education
There may be some variation based on your topic, but in general:●Draw information from recent (2016-2020) peer-reviewed journal articles (NIH, CDC, WHO, Commonwealth Fund, Kaiser Family Foundation, and similar are also acceptable) Provide a list of sources used at the end of the brief ●●The more (good) sources you find & use the better, but you need to use a minimum of 10 recent, peer-reviewed articles) alongside any other sources (older, non-peer reviewed, etc)
Essentially, your policy brief will have three sections: I. Statement of the problem (numbers, scope, “costs” for society; particular populations it affects disproportionately if any – a brief compelling narrative that would convince a legislator to care enough about the problem to try to do something about it.II.Addressing the problem(solutions attempted and evaluated; how effective they have been; drawbacks, concerns, and/or barriers to broader implementation. III.Recommendations/Next Steps: what policies, programs, funding, education, further research, etc. would you recommend going forward, based on your research?Visuals: Use tables and charts to make information more accessible sources: your final policy brief will have at least 10 recent, peer-reviewed sources.
