Child Development Timeline

Use the template below to chart the development of a fictional child as he or she develops from infancy through school age. For each stage of development (Infancy, toddler, Preschool-kindergarten, school age), describe this child\’s developmental characteristics in these domains: social- emotional, physical-motor, language & communication, cognition.

Please use direct references to the theories of child development (Piaget, Erikson, others) as well as information from your readings in the book and articles you read online for previous activities.

The fictional child you create should maintain the same name and gender throughout your final project.

EX. Mary Jo Buttersworth Age 2 Months
Mary Jo Buttersworth Age 3 Years
Mary Jo Buttersworth Age 10

For each age, describe one or more developmentally characteristic activities that you as a caregiver can provide for this child to foster development. (This could be a favorite toy or activity that shows the typical learning behavior of a child at that age/stage of development.)

Be sure to include WHY they are developmentally appropriate (ex. A toddler would benefit from looking at a book with animal pictures and the corresponding sounds they make because they are still in the sensorimotor stage and learn best through sights and sounds and other sensory experiences).

For one age, include an extra section that addresses if your child had special needs and describe any necessary changes you would have to make in order to facilitate learning and social skills under the circumstances. To prepare for this section, use your readings throughout the course and view: Early Childhood Inclusion.pdfPreview the documentView in a new window

*Please remember to include a full introduction for each age. Ex 2 months (intro, family etc.) 3 Years (intro, family etc.)
