PAPER 1: Word limit: 750 words
Topic:
Can emotions affect cognitive performance?
Meaning: Will an intense surge of emotions impair your ability to do cognitive activities which you will otherwise (normal conditions) be able to do?
This assignment will involve reading at least 3 scholarly papers in your area of interest: at least 1 should be a relatively recent review that provides you with a broad overview of the field, at least 1 should be a primary research article that you think plays a primary role, and the other paper can be either a review or a research article that differs in its conclusion somewhat (at any level of detail) from the other two papers. You are free to read any number of papers; this is the minimum you must read. You must stitch together a narrative of your understanding of these particular papers, citing each one whenever you report a fact or interpretation sourced from it, without plagiarizing (copying) text (even within inverted commas). At the end, provide a reference section listing the papers you read. You need not give every paper you cite equal coverage in your assignment.
Find attached my presentation on this topic to have a better idea about what to look for.

2) Opinion piece:
Word limit: 750 words
Topic: Can emotions affect cognitive performance? – Based on the literature review of the previous paper
This assignment is a continuation of the previous one. It will involve your writing up an opinion piece, in which you discuss your opinion on the subject at hand (your topic), informed by these papers but as a public opinion piece, without citations, and not in the format of reporting on the content of these papers. You must ensure that you do not plagiarize from your own work in your previous assignment. You must refer to facts learned from the papers you have read, but you will be largely writing your own opinion on the subject, involving a critical assessment of the validity of the papers, the robustness of their results, thoroughness of their methods, etc.
