Ethnography Analysis

Order Description

Upon completion of their 5 hours of ethnography observation, students will complete a 4-5 page analysis of what they studied. This is not a summary of what you observed; it is not designed for you to merely repeat what you already stated in your earlier fieldwork entries. Rather, this assignment is designed as a chance for you to analyze specific ideas or threads of information you have picked up along the way, focusing in on an aspect of your ethnography which you thought was most telling about the culture you covered. You should aim to have a strong introduction, thesis, body paragraphs defending your thesis, and a conclusion.

For a more succinct description of the assignment, think about it this way.

The purpose of this assignment to look back on your fieldwork experiences and analyze that work. Whereas the fieldworks were meant to be unbiased, objective observations on 5 different topics, this is where you come in with your (possibly) more subjective analysis bringing it all together. Your goal is to come up with some type of analysis of the culture you did your research about. Try to focus in on one theme or idea in particular that you can talk a lot about. Ideally, this analysis will draw on all of the work (all 5 fieldworks) you did, but it does not have to. Remember, you are not merely repeating what you talked about earlier. Rather, you are coming up with an original idea/conclusion building off all the work youve done this semester.
