Content:
The essay question is designed to encourage you to engage deeper with the convergence and divergence debate.
1. the first assessment concentrated primarily on national differences and how these result in divergent approaches to HRM, the essay question encourages you to consider more fully both sides of the debate and make your evaluation, using evidence from a chosen country. As we have stated before, differences in culture and institutions result in divergent approaches to HRM across different national contexts.

2. Despite this, there is evidence that indicates that globalisation and increased interconnectivity has resulted in firms adopting what they see as global best practices (supports the convergence perspective). Hence using a country of your choice and based on your own critical evaluation, we would like you to engage in this debate.

While we ask you to choose one country, you are not limited to one HRM practice. Literature and practitioner evidence shows that some practices are more prone to national influences than others. We encourage you to use a wide range of literature to make your case, also consider over-arching regulating factors. In your essay you are free to state whether you believe that there is more evidence for either side of the argument, once you can support your key points and conclusions with evidence.

Structure:
Please use 1.5 spacing and justified alignment to avoid jagged-looking paragraphs. You can use either Arial or Calibri font (size 11). While you can use some sub-headings to separate your ideas, please do not use a numbering system or table of contents as this is an essay and not a management report.

References:
We expect you to use a wide range of academic references, including textbooks and journal articles which can be accessed through the library databases or online. We would expect you to refer to key writers in your handbook and online reference lists (and in the HRM and International Business fields in general), but you are not limited to these. Some online sources (we are not talking here about journals) can be used as long as they are from credible websites, however we encourage you to keep your online references to a minimum.
We do not expect to see references from the following sources in your essay:
-Dictionary definitions
-In-text citations or references from general knowledge or study websites (e.g. Wikipedia, study skills, businessballs and so on)
-References to lecture slides or video. If you want to use information from the slides or video, go to the original source, which can be found during your own personal research.

I would upload some theories and HR practices about China we learned in class after a short time.
