Explain, with examples from history, what you think were the most important reasons for labor’s defeats and for its victories.
The labor movement suffered a number of defeats from 1877 until the early 1930s, and important long-lasting victories starting in the late 1930s. Explain, with examples from history, what you think were the most important reasons for labor’s defeats and for its victories. Be sure to reference Babson multiple times in your posts. Also draw upon the “Lessons of Labor History” file and tell us what you see as the most important lessons from labor’s past. You may want to critique different unions’ strengths and weaknesses (such as the IWW, Knights of Labor, AFL, and CIO) and how unions were organized (such as the degree of member involvement and democracy, responses to racism and sexism, who was allowed to join, and stance toward the government and the economic system.) Engage other students by critiquing or agreeing with their perspective.
