Part 3 (The Assessment Session):
 What does the literature say about assessment? Review key arguments
– review theories describing the assessment process
– why do we assess?
– types of assessment
– issues around validity, reliability, feasibility and discriminatory power
 Describe your assessment and identify the rational for your decision
– rational for undertaken this assessment
– please provide direction to your assessment plan e.g. appendix 1
-was your mentee’s assessment successful, if not, was a further learning plan needed?
 Explore your feedback from your assessor (both verbal and written)
 Introduce a reflective model and critically reflect upon your effectiveness as an assessor
 Assessment session must be assessed by a stage 2 mentor, sign off mentor, practice teacher or link lecturer. The assessment observation form MUST be hand signed by your assessor and you

Part 4 (Teaching Session):
 What does the literature say about teaching? Review key arguments
– what are some of the relevant educational theories?
– andragogy vs. pedagogy
 Explain your teaching session and identify the rational for your decision
– please provide direction to your teaching plan e.g. appendix 2
-was your teaching session successful? If not, was a further learning plan needed?
 Explore your feedback from your assessor (both verbal and written in form 4)
 Using a reflective model critically reflect upon your effectiveness as a mentor and also on your skills in undertaking the teaching role
 The teaching sessions must be assessed by a stage 2 mentor, sign off mentor, practice teacher or link lecturer. The teaching observation form MUST be hand signed by you and your assessor
 Identify your personal learning and identify some future developmental needs
20% of word count = 800 words approx

Part 5 (Leadership Skills):

 Identify what you have learnt during the mentorship preparation module
 Identify how you will develop your leadership role for mentoring within your clinical area
 Summarise the challenges that you face in teaching and assessing in practice
 Suggest changes that you will make to address the challenges identified in part two
 Formulate a developmental action plan for the challenges identified (remember this needs to be (SMART) written in Bloom’s style
 Conclude by identifying the value of this module to your development as a mentor
