and culture
Scenario: Organizational structure and culture have a very close link to each other
and the future of any organization very much depends on the adoption of an
appropriate organizational structure and a suitable culture. Organizational structure
provides the framework and sets the ground for an organizational culture to prevail.
You work for a management consultancy firm and have been approached by a client
who wants to start a new business.
Requirement: Write a report to the client. The report should include:
 A comparison and contrast of various organizational structures and
cultures (covers AC 1.1)
Guidance: Compare and contrast various organizational structures; functional,
product/division, geographical and matrix etc and organizational cultures; power,
role, task and person etc.
 A explanation of how the relationship between an organizations structure
and culture can impact on the performance of the business (covers AC 1.2)
Guidance: Provide an explanation on how the link and relationship between the
structure and culture that exists within the organization can have an impact on the
way business performs and operates.
 A discussion on the factors which influence the behaviour of individuals in
an organization (covers AC 1.3)
Guidance: Include a discussion on the factors that will have an impact on the
behaviour of the individuals working within an organization.
D1 can be achieved if the discussion provided in the report is based on analysis and
explanation that reflects critical reflection. Conclusions provided are based on
synthesis of ideas which are justified.
