Introduction
Does best practice HRM only work for intrinsically motivated employees?
The bottom-line of HRM practices is generally to foster performance among the employees through nurturing employee commitment and involvement in their work. Current research has empirically established that motivation plays a central role in influencing employees’ behavior and commitment towards their job, which in return fosters increased productivity in their line of job. While HRM practices employed in an organization play a key role in encouraging motivation, employees ought to be motivated to enable them respond to the practices employed by the HR practitioners effectively (Kuvaas and Dysvik 2340). Further employees’ attitudes towards job that are mainly influenced by intrinsic motivation largely influence their overall behavior towards the HR practices adopted by an organization (White and Bryson 390). As such, it can be argued that best HRM practices tend to work only for intrinsically motivated employees.
