How does your piece of writing further the shared purpose(s) of the discourse community to which it belongs?

English 1001: Essay #4: Artifact + Reflective Essay
Purpose: Using the tools and skills you’ve learned this semester, create a piece of writing (an artifact) that belongs to a specific genre within a specific discourse community of your choice. This can be a letter to the editor, a blog post, a newspaper article, an event flier, an advertisement, minutes of a meeting, anything that would be considered a primary source within a discourse community, EXCEPT a social media post. No Facebook postings, Twitter, Yik Yak, Instagram, or the like will be accepted for this portion of the assignment.
Next, write a 3 page reflective essay explaining the rhetorical choices you made in the creation of your primary source artifact. How does your piece of writing further the shared purpose(s) of the discourse community to which it belongs?
Within the essay, you should address such issues as audience consideration, purpose, your use of rhetorical appeals, tone, point of view, language choices, structure, and content.
Format: The genre of the piece will determine the format of your primary source “artifact.” The reflective essay should conform to MLA format and use Times New Roman, 12 pt. font.
